Artist Bio

My name is Genesse Miles, I am 20 years old and a junior in college. I am perusing a BFA in Art Practices with a minor in Creative Technology and Design. There is one quote by Cesar A. Cruz that has stuck with me: "Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.". I strive to make all of my art keeping this in mind. I love art that challenges the viewer's perspective, or even for a minute makes them rethink something they've grown completely used to.

The most influential art installation I have had the privilege to see was in LA's most famous art museum, the Broad. I saw an installation of Kara Walker's, and it was incredibly difficult to walk through. There was absolutely no escaping the message she was sending, and that room was the most silent room in the

entire complex by far. It was an unforgettable experience that will guide me in the rest of my work. I have not yet found a style or an effective way to convey this message, but I am excited to find it! Art is a way for me to put

feelings out into the word that I fail to convey with words. It allows me to explain the unexplainable, gives me an opportunity to explore how others feel and to give others a chance to take a step into my head for just a

moment. My drive is the simple fact that no matter how long I go without creating art, I always come back to it. It is something that will always play a part in my life.
